Personal data breaches cost on average $4.4 million

According to research carried out by the Ponemon Institute and IBM, the average cost of security incidents involving personal data is increasing and, in 2022, is estimated globally at 4.4 million dollars.

In Brazil, the average cost of a security incident is 1.38 million dollars (equivalent to more than R$7 million), but we are the country where this cost has grown the fastest.

Also, according to the report, the main factor that contributed to the considerable increase in costs was the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the misuse of devices configured for telework. The hardest hit sectors are healthcare, retail and hospitality.

The high values underscore the importance of correct compliance with data protection legislation, as well as security protocols, not only as legal prevention measures, but also for the economic and financial health of companies.
